My dad and I are taking a 3 hour ROADTRIP to Ohio to do my timing belts and cam tower gasket. Should be fun. :)

Only Ohio has the precise mix of air pollutants necessary to ensure that 944 timing belts properly seat themselves on the cam sprockets during installation. All 944 timing belt jobs must take place in Ohio or they run the risk of belt slippage.

Well damn it, I was considering buying a shithole 944. But since that means I have to drive at least 2-3 hours away it's a no go.

I'd totally drive 3 hours (or 5) to find a tech who was intimately familiar with whatever type of job I was having done to my vehicle. Better that than bringing it back to a local shop and paying for their education.
